Chapter 3: Life Changes

Clockwork stared at the domed city of Amity Park, an emotionless expression on his face. The personal in charge of weather inside the dome were making it rain. The inside view of the dome roof was most of the time looked like a blue or starry sky as though to make people forget about the dangers outside.

The figure in the dark violet cloak had his hood, which revealed blue pointed ears and shoulder length silver.

“The boy is dead, Clockwork. No amount of staring will change that.” Alexander spoke as he comes up to stand next to the spirit of time. “Even though the votes to save him, outnumbered the votes to kill him. Oh, well. It’s for the best I believe.” The man said with a grin.

Clockwork however ignored him, his mind wondering among the manmade rain clouds.

“Why don’t you ever speak? You’ve never spoken in a meeting until the boy was found…” He said in resentment.

“Alexander! Leave Clockwork alone… We’ve all heard news. You don’t need to repeat yourself.” Vlad glare that the other man.

Alexander was beginning to leave, but, stop a moment. “The boy is dead.” He said over his shoulder before leaving to his office.

Vlad’s gaze followed the over man until he was out of sight. “Clockwork, Do you really think the boy is dead?” He turned to the cloaked figure.

Clockwork merely grinned before leaving to the ghostzone.

Meanwhile back at the cottage, Danny tossed and turned in the bed panting all the while. In the nightmare, he stood in a darken lad and was searching for the light switch. The room around him seem to going forever, the scent of something delicious in the air. However he also heard the sound of chewing. The snowy haired teen wondered a bit longer looking for the light, so he could see what was going on.

After sometime Danny found the switch and when he turned on the light. He saw a nightmarish scene. Dead bodies as far as the eye can see and in the center a raven black haired young man with his back turned was munching away at another young person. It was hard to tell whether it was a male or female, so much of the body had been consumed. The snowy haired teen screamed at the scene in front of him.

The raven haired figure turned his attention to the screaming boy. This revealed the his blue eyes and a mouth full of wolf teeth. He then grabbed ahold Danny’s neck and began to squeeze an unfeeling look in his eyes and a sadistic smile on his face.

The white haired boy shut his and screamed once more. When he opened his eyes there was no blood stained, body filled room or the raven haired young man. He was panting; the nightmare left him shaking in fear. The feeling of fear hid another feeling. A feeling that shouldn’t be felt after seeing death… The feeling of excitement. Danny’s throat felt dry and scratchy, but ignored it. He didn’t want to think about the inhuman feeling inside him.

The young man gazed down at his wounds to see that they were bandage up. However the bright green blood still stained the white cotton with its color, reminding the boy that something was wrong him.

He took a deep breath and took in the sights and smells around him. The room has old wood walls that smell like old wet wood and has a single dresser, a table, two chairs and the bed the he is in. The bed looked fairly news compared to the rest of the place. Danny then forced on listening to the outside. The sound of rain drops hinting the soft earth and plant leaves seem to help him relax, when another sound caught his attention. The sound of someone and something running through the rain.

“Cujo, Get inside now!” a female voice said as a door opened.

The footsteps contused to the door that led to the room Danny was in. The boy didn’t know what to do and shut his eyes tightly. He was afraid … Afraid of whoever was just outside the door…

When the door opened the girl looked around. “Where is he?” She searched franticly for the injured young man.

Danny opened his eyes to the young woman with brown haired a green dog by her side. ‘What I’m on the bed, so, why are they looking over there?’ he thought to himself. He looked down at his hand and stare in shock. His hands were see-through. The snowy white haired boy panicked yelled. “Happening me?!” before becoming visible again. His was looking the answers in his mind which revealed nothing about what was going on with him.

The girl rushed over to him. “CALM DOWM!!! YOU’RE SAFE!!!”

The boy stopped screaming and laid down exhausted, his mind still reeling. He looks at the young lady with dull eyes. ‘What will she do? Is she the one who bandaged my injures?’

The girl put a gentle hand his shoulder. “You need to calm down.” She then picked up a first aid kit and opened it to pull out bandages.

Danny’s emerald gaze watched as she clean and dressed his wounds. Every now and then the injures stung as the blood caked bandages were removed. “Why?” he said in a weak tone.

The farm girl looked at him then shook her head. “Why what?”

“Why are you helping me?” The young white haired teen buried his head in his knee once she was done.

The young lady rolled her eyes. “Because you badly hurt.”

Danny looked away, feeling a little ashamed at the thought that the girl maybe in endanger. People were probable still hunting him and he knew he couldn’t stay. The teen tried to stand, but, his legs felt weak. He slumped to ground.

The young woman grabbed his arm and helped him back to the bed. “What are you doing? You’re still hurt and you haven’t eaten anything since I found you.” She stared at his weak form on the bed. “When I found you. You said someone was trying to kill you and last I checked murder is illegal.” She spoke in a pouty tone.

Danny grits his teeth. “Shut up! I don’t know! I don’t reminder. I don’t know what a Tri is. I don’t know a Tri-human. What’s going on. Why I.. Why I have strange feeling..” He trailed off feeling like he said too much. ‘What does she cure. She might shoot me now.’ He thought with anger.

“Tri-human?” she looked surprised. The young lady looked him over. ‘is he a Tri?’ she asked herself. “Tris are creatures that made by combining animals into one creature. They kill hundreds of people every time they get in. That why to city kills them…” she said.

“I WOULD EVER KILL A PERSON!!!” Danny shouted in rage bolting up to a sitting position. ‘I wouldn’t kill. I wouldn’t. Am I one of those monsters? Am I a monster?’ He felt a jolt of fear run through his body.

“It’s okay! I wouldn’t hurt and you’re not a monster.” She push him back down. The girl wanted to him as calm as possible. “And besides, you’re still hurt and weak.” She pick up a bag and pulled out a dead rabbit.

Cujo began to bark at the young man.

As soon as Danny saw the rabbit his teeth sharped in to wolf teeth and nails turned to talons. The animal in him force its way to the surfaced. The feeling of excitement and hunger numbed the pain. He snatched the rabbit from her and began to eat it. The feeling of eating raw meat made him feel happy. Like it was nature. Once done he snapped back to his senses. ‘What? What did I just do?’ he asked himself. The white haired teen looked at the girl, there was a look of shock on face. He felt a shiver of shame run up his spine. “Sorry.” He said turning away, his teeth and nails returning to normal.

The young lady just stared with wide eyes at him. “You… You ate it… Raw… Meat… Bone… And fur…” She gazes into the bag where two other dead rabbit hidden. The girl looked back at the young man; still in shock. ‘I guess the rumors of Tris eating raw meat are true.’ She thought to herself. “Are you still hungry?” she asked putting the rabbits next to him; looking away.

Danny looked down at rabbits felt the same sensation once more and ate the rabbits. He started licking the blood from his hands and lips. It felt good to him that there was meal in his stomach made him feel like he wanted more. The young man looked over to the young lady; her back still turned to him. ‘She looks tasty… I wonder what she taste like and do the other huma…’ he snapped back to senses before he did anything. Danny’s heart skipped a beat. ‘What was I thinking about? Is… Is this what all Tris think about before becoming monsters?’ The thought scared him to the point that move away to the corner of the bed.

Cujo eyed the boy growling now.

“Cujo, stop it.” The girl yelled at the ghost dog. She turned around to the young man sitting at the other side of the bed. “Don’t worry, Cujo is always like that.”

“Why are you still helping me? Now that you know I’m a Tri.” Danny asked is a sad tone.

“I don’t believe it the city thinks about Tris. I mean you’re not trying to kill me.” She grinned shyly at him.

‘I think I was about to.’ He thought to himself before asking another question. “Why don’t believe the city?”

“I think scared of themselves and people. Their just freighted… Aren’t you stared?” The farm girl asked staring at him again.

“I… I am…” he said shyly before adding to himself. ‘I am afraid… Of what I’ll turn in to… If I turn into a monster, what will happen to the real me? Will I disappear? Or…” he cut off the thought.

The girl felt like she said something wrong. “Hi, I don’t get your name. My name is Anna Reaver, what yours?” Anna asked trying to cheer him up.

Danny thought back to when the recuse people found him and the woman on the radio. He reminds the name she called him. “My is Danny Phantom.” Felt sleepy and so laid down as it claimed him.

During the night the snowy haired young man awoke from his sleep with an aching body. His muscles felt like they were tearing apart and his blood began to boil. He stumbled around weakly looking for something to drink. Danny could hear the rain still pouring outside hinting leaves, stone, bark, metal and earth. He saw pooling on a tarp and drank the fresh water. The cold water seem to stop the pain in his still weaken form. Once done he returned to bed.

The next morning, Anna returned to check Danny’s wounds.

“Wow.” She was surprised to the young man injures healing quickly. ‘The wounds are almost gone. Another day and he’ll be fine.’ She thought staring at the still healing wound.

The young man blinked in curiosity. “What? What is it?”

Anna shook her head. “When I found you, you were dying. The wounds were very deep and… Now, their almost completely healed.” She touched one of the large wounds on his back that looked like the wound from a riffle bullet.

Danny realized he was feeling stronger as well as the fact that he couldn’t stay. “I’m… I’m leaving tonight.”

The farm girl paused a moment, then smacked him over the head. “No! You are staying here where it’s safe. The farm sector is never searched, so it’s the best place to for you.” She said worriedly.

The young man seems to shake his head doubt it. “How do you know?”

Anna gave him an anger stare. “Because Undergrowth won’t allow.”

Danny had a confused expression on his face.

“Undergrowth is the head of the agricultural sectors. He’s afraid the defense force will poison the plant life.” The farm girl said with a sign. “So, no one can reach you here and beside I convinced my father to higher you as a farmhand.”

The snowy haired teen narrowed his eyes in a mix of anger and shock. “What?! The city knows what I look like. Someone will see me.” He yelled.

Anna grinned. “No, they won’t. I have a plan.”

Danny was puzzled. “Plan?”

“I’ll show you tomorrow. So, get some rest.” She said leaving with a sleeping Cujo. “Oh, that bag on the bed has your dinner. See ya.” Added before closing the door.

The young man opened the bag; it has two rabbits and a chicken. Just like before he ate them, but, not like an animal. This time he ate at a slower pace. ‘Anna has a point. If I leave from here, where would I go? What would I do?’ he thought licking his hands clean before going to bed.

When morning came around Danny woke up, he had the same nightmare again. The boy was covered in cold sweat; he could tell the nightmare had something to do with his pest. But, what it meant he didn’t know or wanted to know. He then went outside to get some fresh air. The teen liked the of standing outside in the artificial sun, but, to him it felt like freedom. Since he woke he’s either been in handcuffs or held it gun point. The sights and sounds of the forest gave a feeling of peace that Danny doesn’t remind sensation before. Then again he can’t reminder his life before waking up in that lad with those officers. Something in the boy inside the tried to claw it’s to the surface. He jumped back to his senses before it could succeed in clouding his mind. ‘Why can’t I control these feelings.’ He gritted his teeth. The lack of control over the Tri in him both anger and scared him to the point where he was having second thought about Anna’s plan; whatever it is.

Danny headed back to the cottage to find Anna a little upset. “Where were you? I thought something happened.”  The farm girl yelled following the young man in.

“I was getting some fresh air.” He said unhappily. “Besides, what is the plan?”

Anna pulled out a metal collar.

The snowy haired boy looked a little puzzled. “What’s that supposed to be?”

“A disguise collar.” She said with a grin.

Danny looked even more puzzled. “A what collar?”

Anna frowned at him. “A disguise collar is a collar that charges your hair and eye color. As long as you still wear it. If you take it off your hair and eye return to normal. So, what colors?” she smiled.

The young man thought a moment. The only color he could think about were black and blue, that was because the nightmare was still in his mind. “Black hair and blue eyes. Umm… If I have to have wear that all the time, how am I going to hide it? Don’t people know about it?” he asked a bit worn out.

“That’s you’re going to wear this.” She pulled out a turtle neck long sleeve shirt. The shirt was black with white sleeves. Anna then pulled out black sweat pant and white boots. “I got you these to wear.” She then left the room so Danny could get dressed.

Danny eyed the clothes before changing in to them. He made sure the disguise collar hidden under the turtle neck, this wasn’t hard. The collar was flat and rested at the base of his neck. Once dressed he opened the door. “How do I look?” he said unsure.

Anna observed him. “You look good. Black hair and blue eyes suit you.” She said in a happy tone. “Now, when you meet my dad and he asks you where you’re from tell him you are a traveler and you’re just looking for work, okay.”

“You want me to lie to him?” he thought a moment, telling her father he was a Tri wasn’t a very good idea. “Never mind, what are travelers?” He waved one of his hands in a dismissive manner.

“Travelers are people or ghosts that travel from place to place. Some Travelers do stay in cities if they like the city enough, others Travelers stay Travelers for I don’t know why.” She walked outside. “Come on. The sooner we get there, the sooner I can show you around.” She took off in the direction of the farm.

Danny chased after her. Thinking about wither it was good idea to live close to people. What if the Tri in him acts up again? He looked around nervously; the forest seemed quiet and peaceful as though nothing bad was going to happen.

After a while the forest turned to corn fields and orchards. Danny couldn’t reminder seeing something so beautiful; all the different colors. Then he caught of the animals and the barn. The barn was the color of tree bark with wooden roof as to keep the weather out. The young man’s now blue eyes scanned the surrounding. There are cows, horses, chickens, ducks, sheep and other animals. The place is full of life.  The teen followed the farm girl to her father, who was coming out of the horse stabiles. He’s a middle aged man with dark brown haired, brown eyes, looked to be of Native American descent. He was wearing a light brown short sleeve shirt, dark pants and brown boots.

“Hi, Dad.” Anna said happily walking towards him, the young man in toe.

Anna’s father looked Danny over with an unimpressed stare. “This the boy?”

“Yes, This is Danny.” Anna replied pulling the young men forward. “He’s a bit shy.”

“Where are you from kid?” the man asked blankly.

Danny looked at the man nervously. “I’m… I’m traveler. I moved around a lot. So, I don’t know where I’m from.” He said in a shaky tone.

The older man remained silent. “It’s alright kid.” He turned to his daughter. “Show him around… We see how he does for a few days.”

Anna grabbed Danny and pulled toward the barn. She showed him all to animal her family raised and different plants they grow. She even showed him places to hide when he felt unwell. The farm girl then took him to where he’d be staying. It a house behind the main family house, that about the same size.

“Anna, it is you.” Said a ghost man with very short black hair, red eyes and light blue skin, he wears a grey short sleeve skirt, blue overalls and black boots. “I fixed the fence for you.” The man spoke as though he were trying to scare them. He looked over at Danny. “And who are you?” He said invading the young man’s personal space.

Danny forced back a wolflike growl. He looked at the blue skinned man in the eyes. “I’m Danny.”

The blue man in to air and floated. “I am the Box Ghost and you will fear me! Beware!” He yelled throwing his hands in the air above his head.

Danny annoyed. “Anna, Who is this guy?”

“He’s a ghost that works here. Come on. I’ll show your room.” Anna led the annoyed teen inside and to the second floor. The hall has four doors on both sides of it and at the end of it a large window. The farm girl led the young man to the third door on the right. The room it led to a normal sized room with a bed, a desk, a chair and dresser. “This is your room.”

“Thank you. But, I still don’t know if this is a good idea.” The now black haired teen said with worry. He started to fidget with the neck of the turtle neck shirt where the disguise collar was hidden.

Anna kept an eye out for eavesdroppers. “I think it a good idea.” She replied, but, in her the back of her mind a bit of fear still lingered. ‘What if the rumors are true and Danny becomes a vicious monster.’ She shook her head. ‘No, Danny sound really very worried. If he was a monster then why would he be worried about others?’ She looked into the boy’s sad eyes. “Are you okay?”

Danny stares down at floor and started rubbing his left arm. He didn’t want to tell her about the night he wanted to sink his teeth in to her flash or that he thought she’d a good meal. He shook the thought away. ‘No, I won’t let that happen.’ He seems to observe the room around him trying to keep his mind off the Tri instincts. “I’m fine.”

“Good, you can meet the other farmhands.” She bolted quickly down the stairs.

Danny stood stunted for a minute before following her down. When he caught up with her, she was with five other; the Box ghost being one of them.

“This is the Lunch Lady Ghost” Anna pointed to an old ghost woman with short white hair, red eyes and light green skin, wears a pink gown, white apron and black shoes. “This is Box Lunch her and the Box ghost’s daughter.” The farm girl nodded to a little 8 year old ghost girl with black hair in pigtails, red eyes, buck teeth and light blue skin, wears a pink short sleeve shirt, blue overalls and black shoes. “This is Kwan.” She turned to a young man of asian descent with  has short black hair and pine green eyes, wears a white shirt with thin red stripes, wore blue jean, brown boots and heavily muscled young man. “And this is Star.” She stared at a young woman that has long blonde hair that reaches to her hips, bright turquoise eyes, wears a white with mud stain, jean overalls and brown boots. “Everyone, this is Danny. He’s new in town.” Anna told everybody.

“So, what’s he supposed to be? Like a new loser.” Star said filing her nails.

“Don’t talk like that to him. How are you? You hunger?” asked the Lunch Lady in a kind voice.

“He looks so scrawny. I bet I can stuff him in a lock at school.” Kwan looked Danny over like a new bully victim.

“I AM THE BOX GHOST, BEWARE!!!” the Box Ghost yelled.

“BEWARE!!!” Box Lunch yelled with her father.

All farmhands began to argue with one another about their new housemate.

Danny felt very uncomfortable, so much so he felt like a trapped animal. He started to feel an itchy sensation on both his forearm. He then ran back to his room. Once there the lifted his left sleeves to see the reason they itch so badly. Black feathery buds and yellow-brown scales were beginning to appear; he looked down at his arm in shock. It was only the sudden knock at the door that made him cover the new phenomenon out of fear. “Who… Who is it?” he called in a shaky voice.

“Danny, it’s me. Anna, Are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine.” Danny told her through the door.

“Well, dinner is almost done.” She said.

“I’m not hunger. I think I’m going to bed early.” In truth Danny don’t want one of the other farmhands to get the idea to pull up his sleeves and see the feather buds and scales. He could hear Anna walking and leave the house as well as hear other farmhands still arguing. He laid down on the bed and looked at his forearm again. ‘Is this what happens to all Tris? Is this normal for my kind?’ Danny covered his arm before falling asleep.

The next morning, Danny was up early. He straight to the kitchen where he found the Lunch Lady cooking breakfast, he hoped she hadn’t noticed him. But, of course she did notice.

“Aw, I hope you have an appetite.” She said putting a plate of food on the table. “Go on.”

Danny sense of smell is similar to that of a wolf. He could smell the food up stair and it didn’t smell good to him at all even now as he stood in the doorway. However, he sat down and ate it; using a fork. After eating he the house to talk to Anna’s father; who name is Eric Reaver.

“Anna, will show you how to feed the animals and tend to the crops.” Eric alleged as he walked away with his rifle in hand.

Danny felt unease seeing the gun, but, he did what man told him to do and went to find Anna.

This is how it went over the course of the next few days. Every now and then Kwan and Star pulled pranks on him; sneaking in to his room to take his clothes, rigging traps that ended the boy getting covered in chicken feathers, dirt, animal feed and other things. Danny held back his anger every time and finished him work.

Four days later, Danny was putting away bales hay was he broke out in to cold sweat. He crawled in to a hidden area in the bales hay. The young man felt a sharp pain in his muscles and head made very light headed. The pain lessen as quickly as it began, he looked at his forearms again. There was no change in the buds or scale, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something else change in him. Something that shouldn’t change. Danny ignored it and went back to work.

This is fantastic writing! Although, the grammar-nazi in me is about having a stroke, lol. Spelling errors aside, I love your descriptive style; just vivid enough to allow the reader to fill in the blanks.
